I am offended by people who think they have a right not to be offended.
What kind of world would we live in if this were true. If you honestly had a right not to be offended then someone could enact a law making it illegal to offend you. How long would it take before we're all locked up? You offend me by being offended by my actions so we both broke the law.
Seriously people, if you are offended by something, ignore it and move on. Life is way too short to go around pissing and moaning about who said what and who believes different than you. You have the right to be offended, and I have the right to offend you. The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America guarantees that.
With regard to other countries that do not have a similar document guaranteeing freedom of speech, you cannot control what happens outside your political boundaries and it is foolish to think you can.
Some notable offenses this week in the news:
Pakistan orders Youtube blocked over cartoons.
Cartoons blamed for Danish riots.
Autism Group offended by Big Brother Contestant.
The Amish Cook offends her readers by mentioning Yodeling.
Rwanda Genocide Survivors Offended.
And not so surprisingly, I am not the only one thinking this:
Philosophers Anonymous: This is Madness
Disclaimer: I didn't find Spiros article until after I wrote this and was searching for news articles on people being offended. He says pretty much the same thing, but much more eloquently than I did.
